Some of the plants we grow in the garden fear frost, especially when it is very intense and when it is prolonged for long periods of time. In the nursery we can find some very useful materials to preserve our plants from cold. If we need to repair a plant from the cold and also from humidity, we can use plastic; this material is waterproof, so by wrapping the top of the plant we will prevent it from getting too cold and from getting the weather. If possible we cover our plant keeping a gap between the leaves and the plastic, so that there is better ventilation; moreover if possible we try to leave at least some crack in the cover, in this way we will avoid the creation of condensation on the foliage. During the hottest days we can also think of slightly opening the cover, to ensure the plant a good air exchange. Depending on the needs of our plant we can choose plastic fabrics of different thickness, but we avoid excessively thick sheets, which may be too heavy for the plant or poorly malleable and difficult to wrap around the plant itself. If we do not have the need for our plants to be sheltered from winter humidity we can choose instead of the woven fabric to repair them; it is a special white or green fabric, also called non-woven fabric. This material is definitely an excellent insulator from the cold, at the same time it allows sunlight to reach the plants, but it is also breathable, so no harmful condensation is formed inside. There are also various types of non-woven fabrics, of different thicknesses, so that they can be used even in the coldest areas. We can also find comfortable non-woven fabrics on the market, to protect the hair of the most delicate shrubs from the cold. In the sea areas often what worries is not the low temperature, but the wind; in this case bamboo canes or mats of natural fiber can be used, to be placed next to the plants, so as to protect them from the cold; in the case of palms or similar plants, on the other hand, you can intervene by tightening them with mats, so that the cold air does not penetrate the fronds.
Protect plants from the cold: non-woven fabric for plants
As mentioned in the video and explained in the text, the non-woven fabric is fundamental for the protection of plants in winter. Plants that do not bear the cold of this time of year can in fact be wrapped in non-woven fabric as protection to be able to better withstand the cold and not be subjected to frost and winter cold.
From a technical point of view, the non-woven fabric is a synthetic fiber which is not very heavy and partially transparent, made of light and fairly fragile propylene or polyester polymers. The non-woven fabric for plants is a special type of non-woven fabric because this term is used in a fairly general way to indicate different types of non-woven fabric.
The purpose of plant non-woven fabric is mainly to create a barrier to cold and wind, to prevent low winter temperatures from damaging the plants in our garden that are more sensitive to low temperatures.
There are different types of non-woven fabric that vary between them based on weight per square meter, expressed in grams. The higher the weight per square meter, the thicker and more resistant the fabric is.
In addition to protecting garden plants, the non-woven fabric for plants It is also used to speed up the growth of vegetable plants in winter, when night temperatures drop by several degrees and an acceptable temperature must be maintained so as not to stop the growth of vegetables.
