Common toadflax Many of us are better known as snapdragons. Toadflax is not a rare plant, very often it can be seen in the fields, in ravines, ditches, along roads.
Snapdragon is quite tall: stems reach 30-80 cm in height, and sometimes even taller. Flowers have a specific smell, which is difficult to confuse with the smell of another flower.
Due to the fact that the root system of toadflax is pivotal with creeping shoots, it most often grows in groups. It is worth noting the fact that snapdragons belongs to poisonous plants.
Despite its toxicity, toadflax contains a lot of useful substances, which makes it a medicinal plant widely used in folk medicine.
The plant contains organic acids such as formic, acetic, and malic. Rich in tannins, trace elements and vitamins.
On the basis of toadflax, preparations are made that have anti-inflammatory, wound healing, diaphoretic, laxative, diuretic, analgesic, antihelminthic, antifungal and other properties.
For the preparation of raw materials, the upper part of the plant and flower brushes are used. On the basis of toadflax, ointments, infusions, decoctions, extracts are prepared, or a fresh plant, crushed to gruel, is used.
Such gruel is good for skin diseases, inflammatory processes in the joints. Snapdragon juice is added to baths for children with skin rashes. Toadflax is also known as a remedy for the treatment of prostatitis and increasing potency.
