Alpine erythematosus - a mysterious plant

Many alpine erythematosus called an amazing, mysterious, unusual, even alien and Martian plant. What is so amazing about this representative of celery?

The genus erythematosus has about 200 species and they are common in the temperate regions of the planet.

An amazing feature of most species of erythematosus is inflorescence color: from blue and blue-blue to amethyst of varying intensity. Curiously, different shades of blue, depending on the variety, are colored not only by the inflorescences, leaves of the wrapper, the upper part of the shoots, but also the whole plant completely, as if a bush had been dipped into a vessel with a blue metallic paint.

The leaves of the alpine bluehead are green, gray, striped, with marble streaks.

Contrary to the name, some inflorescences are not blue, but green. By the way, the intensity of the blue color depends on the species, varietal characteristics, growing conditions. Alpine erythematosus should be placed in sunny areas, since a lack of lighting affects development, the stems stretch out, lodge, and the plants do not acquire a peculiar color.

Most erythematosus prefer dry drained, poor soil, inflorescences on such lands are the brightest. It was noticed that the color of the erythematosus is maximally saturated when lime is added to the soil.

The peak flowering of many species is in the second half of summer, while flowering itself lasts until late autumn. Even in winter, these unusual plants with a non-standard color are an excellent decoration for the garden.
