Reproduction of raspberries by cuttings is a technique known among gardeners as a quick and free way to acquire new seedlings. For its effective use, it is enough to stock up on varietal material, prepare the necessary tools and provide conditions for growing. Raspberry propagation can be done with green or root cuttings.

Propagation by green cuttings
Reproduction by green cuttings is a technique that guarantees the preservation of the variety, which does not require financial and time costs. Using green cuttings cut from root suckers, it is recommended to choose an overcast day for propagation. The optimal time of the year is summer.
Green young shoots are cut at the root with a knife or secateurs (slightly below the soil level). In this case, the tool deepens a couple of centimeters.
Planting material, cut to 7-10 cm, is placed in a solution containing a rooting stimulator, for example, heteroauxin, root, indolylbutyric acid, growth powders. When preparing an aqueous solution, the growth-promoting substance is first dissolved in a small amount of alcohol, after which it is added to a certain volume in water.
For optimal rooting, it is sufficient to wait 12-15 hours. In this case, the temperature of the solution should be above 18 degrees, otherwise the quality of processing will drop. Then the raspberry cuttings are carefully planted under the film. It is necessary to maintain high air humidity under the film, the temperature is about 22-25 degrees.
The recommended distance between cuttings for this method of raspberry propagation is 7-10 cm. It is also advisable to use a fogging installation. In its absence, regular watering is required.
It takes about a month for the cuttings to take root, then they begin to grow. As soon as this happens, you should reduce the frequency of watering, provide frequent ventilation.
Carrying the cutting to a permanent place is done with greenhouse soil. Before planting berries, it is important to carefully prepare the site, following the advice on agricultural technology.
For harvesting green cuttings for reproduction of raspberries, shoots are considered optimal, the ground part of which does not exceed 3-5 cm.If the shoots have a large ground part, the beginning of stem growth, the rooting process will proceed less efficiently. Subject to all breeding rules, you can count on the harvest next year.
Propagation by root cuttings
Propagation by root cuttings is a productive technique when working with remontant raspberries. A root cut is a root element with a lateral branch, suitable for further independent growth. In this case, the root thickness should be more than 2 mm. It is recommended to harvest the material in the spring when transplanting raspberries to a new place.
Root cuttings can be stocked up in the fall, when the growing process is nearing its natural finish. In this case, they are stored until spring at stable humidity and temperature. To maintain them, the planting material is wrapped in paper and canvas, after which it is buried in slightly moistened sand in the cellar.
Before planting, it is important to thoroughly dig, level and compact the soil. Plentiful pre-watering is also required.
Root cuttings are laid out in grooves, the depth of which is approximately 5 cm, laying is done flat. Then the material is sprinkled with earth, thoroughly watered, covered with a film. This is required to maintain the proper level of heat and moisture - soil moisture is approximately 80%, air humidity 100%, temperature 22-30 degrees. To maintain optimal performance, the film is periodically lifted.
The film is removed immediately after green young plants appear on the surface. Shoots are protected from direct ultraviolet rays, gusts of wind. The protection is completely removed as soon as the plants are strong.
Cuttings with a developed system (at least 3-4 roots), the length of which is 5-10 cm, are transferred with a lump of earth to a permanent landing site. "Weak" cuttings are grown throughout the year.
For effective propagation of raspberries by cuttings (root or green), a minimum set of tools and materials is required:
- Knife or secateurs
Samples with strong bark and dark brown color show optimal results. Roots with dark brown, weak bark must be discarded.
Reproduction of raspberries by cuttings is far from the only technique for its rapid breeding. However, it is this method, despite the sufficient laboriousness, is recommended in order to maintain the purity of the variety and protect the plants from infection with viruses.
