Seedlings in snails and diapers, useful tips for growing from Julia Minyaeva

The cultivation of many agricultural plants requires preliminary preparation of the seedlings. Boxes and pots with it take up a lot of space in the apartment, so gardeners are constantly looking for a solution to the problem of free space.

The method by which the seedlings are grown in snails and diapers helps to eliminate the large number of boxes and pots and does not take up a large area of plants.

This method has been known for a long time, but gained popularity thanks to Yulia Minyaeva and her YouTube channel "Whether in the garden".

The principle of growing seedlings in snails and diapers

Planting by this method does not require special skills and expensive equipment. Everything is done very simply using the means at hand.

For work you will need:

  • underlay for laminate;
  • soil (or toilet paper);
  • polyethylene film;
  • plastic container;
  • stationery rubber bands;
  • scissors;
  • prepared seeds.

A tape 10-15 cm wide and of arbitrary length is cut from the substrate. The main thing is that the finished snail fits freely in a plastic container.

The earth is superimposed on top. The layer should be 1.5-2 cm thick. If desired, you can abandon the use of primer and spread several layers of thin toilet paper on a substrate.

The paper and soil are laid out so that their top edge is 1 cm away from the top edge of the backing. Seeds are laid out at a distance of 2 cm from each other, from the edges and from the top.

If a primer is used, it should be slightly crushed and moistened with water so that it does not crumble. Place the seeds in small holes in the soil.

Then the backing with earth or toilet paper is gently rolled like a roll, starting from the edge. You can fix the snail with rubber bands. It should be placed in a plastic container with water, better transparent, so that it is easier to monitor the level of the liquid.

The seeds in the finished snail should be at the top. There should be a little water in the container, but enough water to wet the soil and toilet paper. It is necessary to control the constant presence of fluid in the vessel.

It is advisable to water the seeds from a spray bottle so that the pressure of water does not displace them. The top of the snail should be covered with foil to create a greenhouse effect. From time to time, the film must be removed to ventilate the soil. When the first shoots appear, the polyethylene is removed.

Seedling picking is done after the leaves grow.

Diaper landing

This method is used not for germinating seeds, but for picking sprouts.

You will need:

  • plastic bags or greenhouse film;
  • priming;
  • seedling container;
  • stationery rubber bands;
  • scissors;
  • ready seedlings

A plastic bag or a piece of film of approximately the same area is taken. A handful of earth is laid out in the center, leveled, sprayed with water and compacted.

A sprout should be placed on top. Its bottom leaves should be at the level of the top edge of the film. The roots should reach the bottom of the ground. If they are too long, they should be tucked up. If the root system is poorly developed, has only one root, you can trim it.

Another handful of earth is placed on top of the plant. After that, you can start folding.

The bottom of the bag or film is bent, as if forming a bottom. Then the film or bag is folded neatly. As a result, you should get a plastic cup.

Finished diapers are fixed with rubber bands and placed in a common container for seedlings close to each other. Water the sprouts with a spray bottle.

As the plant develops, you can unfold the bottom and add earth to the bag. After that, the seedlings no longer need to be watered from above. Water is poured directly into the container.

Preparing seeds for seedlings in snails

Seeds for seedlings in snails are prepared in the usual way. First you need to sort them out. It is better not to use small and damaged seeds.

If necessary, the seeds are hardened. To do this, they should be placed in the refrigerator for a while, and then left at room temperature.

It is also useful to feed the seeds with ash or various preparations. Before planting, the material is disinfected.

Means that can be used for pre-sowing treatment:

  • phytosporin (disinfectant);
  • potassium permanganate (disinfectant);
  • epin (growth stimulant);
  • zircon (growth stimulant);
  • hydrogen peroxide (disinfects and improves seed germination).

Julia Minyaeva recommends germinating seeds before planting in snails. To do this, lay them out on a thin fabric, wrap and wrap them with thread.

The resulting bundles are placed in a jar and poured with an antiseptic solution or a germination stimulator. After the time indicated on the package of the drug, the liquid must be drained. The seeds remain in the jar, which should be tightly closed and placed in a dark, warm place.

The thinner the fabric used, the easier it is to keep track of the seed pecking. When preparing seed, one should take into account the characteristics of various species and varieties of plants.

Julia Minyaeva's recommendations when planting tomatoes and peppers

Julia Minyaeva is constantly improving her planting methods. In her opinion, the following methods should be used to obtain the best harvest of tomatoes and peppers.

Planting tomatoes

Seeds of late varieties of tomatoes should be sown at the end of February, and of mid-season and early varieties at the beginning of March. Julia Minyaeva planting a tomato using toilet paper. She moistens the paper with a fertilizer solution.

After the sprouts have sprouted, you should unfold the roll and remove the non-sprouted seeds. In their place, you can plant new ones. Then a layer of soil 1 cm thick is placed on top, moistened with water and compacted.

After that, the roll must be rolled back, sprinkled with earth on top, and watered abundantly.
Julia recommends placing the snail on birch sawdust. Then the plant is covered with cellophane and removed to a warm place. After the germination of all seeds, the covering material should be removed, and the seedlings should be placed in the sun.

It is best to dive plants into diapers, but you can do without diving. To do this, the snail must be expanded and placed on another layer of substrate under the laminate.

The fresh layer should be the same length as the old one, but 5 cm wider. This excess material should be on the root side.

Then you need to add soil mixed with birch sawdust. The finished snail must be rolled up and fixed. Sprinkle earth on top and water abundantly. Subsequently, water can be poured directly into the sump.

Planting pepper

Late sweet peppers are planted in early February, mid-season varieties are planted at the end of February, and early varieties are planted in mid or late March. It is possible to use rolls of toilet paper, but planting seeds in the ground is preferable.

The finished snail is poured from above with earth so that its layers are not visible, and abundantly watered from a spray bottle. Subsequent watering is done at the bottom of the container, where the seedlings are.

Covered snails are placed in a warm place until sprouting. Then the covering material should be removed, and the seedlings should be placed in a well-lit place.

When it comes time to dive, the snail is unrolled and strong shoots are selected, which are transplanted into diapers. Option of landing without picking is possible. In this case, the seedlings are transferred to the greenhouse after one and a half to two months.

Growing seedlings of flowers according to the technology of Julia Minyaeva

Yulia Minyaeva also plants flowers with the help of snails. The process technology can be considered using the example of petunia. Planting a petunia in a snail is not much different from growing other plants in the same way.

It is necessary to prepare the tape from the substrate under the laminate and soil. If you use granulated petunia seeds, they should be laid out in the ground one by one at a distance of 2 cm. Small seeds are simply poured into the ground, and after germination are thinned out.

When thinning, weak petunia sprouts should not be pulled out of the ground. This can damage adjacent stems. It is best to cut them with scissors.

The finished snail must be watered abundantly and covered with foil to create a suitable microclimate. As the plants develop, the covering material should be periodically removed, and then removed completely.

Petunia does not need a dive. Fully formed plants are planted in a greenhouse or outdoors. Some varieties of flowers require pre-planting in separate containers or diapers.

Method advantages

According to Yulia Minyaeva, seedlings in snails and diapers have a number of advantages:

  • Plants in snails and diapers take up much less space than seedlings in separate pots. One roll fits 10 or even more sprouts. The diapers can be arranged very tightly in one seedling drawer.
  • Seedlings are located, as it were, in separate compartments. They do not interfere with each other's development.
  • The roots of the sprouts are not intertwined. Plants are easy to take out and dive. In addition, if one of them gets sick, it will not infect the others through the root system.
  • The rolls are easy to rotate and reposition so that the sprouts receive the same amount of sunlight.
  • When planting, it is easy to get developed plants, and leave weak ones for further growth.
  • This method requires much less soil. It is possible to grow seedlings without using soil at all. This helps to avoid various diseases.
  • The absence of the need for separate dishes and peat pots for each plant significantly saves money.

The method is very simple. Does not require special skills and equipment. Snail seedlings require a minimum of maintenance. Plants grown this way do much better. They do not stretch up, but spend energy on the growth of the root system.

Growing seedlings in snails and diapers is an innovative way to get a good harvest. It is suitable for growing a wide variety of vegetables, berries and flowers.
